Your PTO $ at work . . .

The following is a brief overview of what your PTO dollars supported during the 2006-2007 school year. The PTO had an operating budget of approximately $34,500; this money was raised from parent contributions and the following fundraisers – Burns Park Run, Sally Foster gift wrap sale, Burn$ Park Buck$, Kids Art Notecards and the Ice Cream Social. Thank you for your generous contributions and your participation in our fundraisers.

In the 06-07 academic year the PTO spent approximately $85 per student at Burns Park; the students benefited from the following expenditures:

  • $9000 in classroom teacher subsidies
  • $3850 in special teacher subsidies (art, computer, library, music, PE, Spanish and reading recovery)
  • $5500 in field trips
  • $5500 in Golden Apple grant funding (Reptiles Then & Now, Science Alive, classroom visits with a Michigan author/historian, Wild Swan Theater performance, Marionette performance, Jazz/tap dance performance, Jeopardy kits for Science Olympiad practice, two parent education lectures, a relational aggression workshop for 5th grade girls and other enrichment assemblies)
  • $400 for Service Learning (Lunches with Love, Family to Family Giving, Kids Care Club and Adopt-a-room)
  • $500 for March is Reading month
  • $750 for Math & Science Night
  • $100 for Special Interest Fair
  • $150 for Lunchtime Choices
  • $300 for Walk & Talk
  • $500 for 5th grade composition concert
  • $600 publications (yearbook, student directory and Burns Park Press)

Additionally, after consulting with teachers, parents and students, the PTO will use reserve funds to purchase new play equipment for the upper elementary playground and a fence along the border of the lower elementary playground.
