Science Olympiad Volunteer Positions

Burns Park Science Olympiad Team Volunteer Positions

The Science Olympiad is run completely by volunteers. One parent or guardian (or other designated adult) of each student will be required to volunteer to help with the team or the tournament. Listed below are volunteer position descriptions.

Next Year’s Head Coach: Volunteer to coordinate the Burns Park Team for the 2009-10 school year. This season, Next Year’s Head Coach can assist the 2009 Head Coach to learn the ropes.

Coach: We still need coaches for Monster Match and Potions—call Sue Cutler if you are interested.

Tournament Volunteer: WESO requires each team to provide at least 18 adults to assist with events, food sales, and other tasks on the day of the tournament. Shifts are 2-4 hours. No prior training is necessary.

T-shirt Coordinator: One person is needed to coordinate t-shirt orders in February and pickup and distribute t-shirts when they are ready (in April).

Team Photographer: Each team member will receive a booklet containing information about all the schools competing in the tournament. A photographer is needed to take a team photo sometime in February or March for inclusion in the booklet.

Baker: There will be a bake sale at the tournament and each school is asked to contribute a few dozen cookies. A volunteer will be needed to bake them a day or two before the tournament in May.

Raffle Basket Coordinator: Burns Park Team needs to put together a themed basket for a raffle drawing to be held during the tournament. The coordinator needs to determine a theme and solicit donations from families or businesses to fill the basket.

Team Banner Coordinator: Each participating school will carry a banner in the opening ceremony at WESO on May 16. The banner coordinator will help design, gather materials, and coordinate the making of the banner during March or April.

WESO Board Member: WESO needs new board members to continue this fabulous program for coming years. Please think about contributing to your community in this way.
