summer pre-kindergarten family connections

It would be useful to have an item for families of kids
entering kindergarten this fall to have an opportunity to
get involved and ask questions before their kids start.
I know that we had a bunch of questions coming in that
were hard to find out about.

I’d like to keep a list of other online resources for
parents – e.g. the Arborparents list which has a lot (a lot)
of discussion in an email list and a pretty good questions
list.

We could use a summer camp / summer activities item to
collect ideas of what to do with kids while school is out.

Summer items

That’s a good idea, Ed. It seems like it would be useful to have a “forum” for parents’ FAQs about coming to school (with maybe topics for incoming kindergarteners, entering first grade, and….?). Some new K families are on here already, and I was hoping to invite everyone by email during the summer.

The list of resources is also a good idea; you could create a “page” inside a forum for parent resources. [Actually, it seems that “pages” are not in the category heirarchy with the forums/discussions. So you could put a pointer to the page in a comment, or you could enter a longish comment and keep editing it as time went on.] The summer activites item could also go in that forum. I’ll set it up, and let me know what you think.

Kindergarten Help

Ed,
I am very interested in your kindergarten resource info. Next year I will have a son, David, entering Kindergarten at Lawton. I am looking forward to seeing the district from both sides…as a teacher and a parent! Don’t forget about signing up for Safety Town through Rec and Ed.
